Youth Mission Trip 2017

Riverside Youth will be traveling down to Moore, Oklahoma to help rebuild the community from a devastating tornado on July 1-8. The cost will be $250 per person ($50 deposit included in total) Must be going into 6th grade the fall of 2017 or older to attend, college students are welcome to join. Chaperones must be 25 years or older. To reserve your spot, turn in your deposit to Kirstie Foeller by January 31. 

You do not need to be a member of Riverside UMC to attend this trip, all are welcome to join us.


MISSION

23 deaths and 377 injuries were the direct result of an F5 tornado that plundered through Moore, Oklahoma on May 20, 2013. With over $2 billion in damages, much of this community was left in pieces that Monday afternoon. Located in what is known as Tornado Alley, this lively town of Moore has experienced destruction before, but rarely to this extent. The 2013 twister destroyed an estimated 1,500 homes. Most devastation was in residential neighborhoods, demolishing entire sub-divisions as the storm raced through town. In the aftermath, like most natural disasters, the rebuilding process can be complicated and messy: insurance money being held, FEMA money not coming through as planned. This is where the partnership with Moore began.

Your teams will work alongside one of the many families, organizations, and churches we partner with in both Moore and Oklahoma City. The vision is renewal. You will meet people from Cross and Crown Ministry, The Spero Project, and Serve Moore, which all believe in the kind of renewal that brings healing, growth, and freedom to a city. Physical renewal and construction work is where our partnership with these organizations collide. Through these organizations we are able to work on the construction of community centers, transitional homes, city beautification projects, and residential houses. But the true beauty of city renewal is seeing individuals and the community at large, uniting under a vision of hope that is found at the center of Christ’s love.

DEADLINES

The total cost for the trip is $250, $50 deposit included. (both students & adults).

Early Registration - (January 31) $50 Deposit

Late Registration (March 1) $100 Deposit

Final Registration – (May 1) $150 Deposit

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES

Fundraising volunteer hours may go towards your total cost. (1 hour of volunteer = $10) You may volunteer at The Wardrobe, Community Sunday Dinner, Kids Club or other designated Youth Fundraisers. Please make sure you sign in and out for your volunteer hours or else they will not be documented, thus no money will go towards your church account.
